Pink Place Trustee Wins Charity Champion Award

21 June 2025

A trustee of The Pink Place, Craig Killick, recently picked up the charity champion award at the Basingstoke Place To Be Proud Of Awards, following his work as a trustee for the charity, as well as his mammoth cycle ride in 2024, which raised £17,425.

The Place to be Proud of Awards is an event organised by Destination Basingstoke to recognise the contributions made by individuals, groups, organisations, places and initiatives that make the borough a diverse, vibrant community and a great place to live and do business.

Craig was unable to attend the awards ceremony itself, which took place at Oakley Hall on June 5th, as he was once again on two wheels cycling in France on a pre-planned trip.

His award was generously collected by Pink Place volunteer, Lindy Richardson, and passed on this week on his return.

Despite the 1,900km cycle ride, which took 22 days to complete, Craig hasn’t been put off cycling. He is already planning another fundraising ride in 2026, cycling approximately 3,460 km from Athens to Basingstoke.

If there is one thing I have learned, growing up in Basingstoke over the past 54 years, and getting that little bit older, is that it's a fantastic town with a great community spirit still - something that really hits home at The Place To Be Proud Of Awards.

Working with The Pink Place, and taking on the challenge of cycling to Spain was an adventure for me, but also a great excuse to help and to do something for other people in the town.

Despite my best efforts at not particularly looking after my own body, I am blessed that I have never had to really suffer any hardship in terms of my health, which is one of the reasons I still lug myself around on my bike.

But, since becoming a trustee of The Pink Place, I have met a number of ladies going through a very difficult time with a cancer diagnosis, and every time I think about that, I realise how lucky I actually am, and how I have the opportunity and responsibility to help.
