A remarkable act of kindness and determination is set to take place this weekend, as 18th April sees Mia Catterall take to the skies in a charity skydive to raise funds for The Pink Place.
What makes this story even more special is that Mia and her family have no direct connection to the charity or the local area it serves. Instead, they discovered The Pink Place through GoSkyDive and chose to support it because of its meaningful work supporting women affected by cancer.
Mia’s inspiration comes from her mum, Sarah, who was diagnosed with breast cancer last December and is currently undergoing chemotherapy. Despite facing such a challenging time, Sarah remains at the heart of her close-knit community in West Malling, Kent, where she and her family run the much-loved local pub, The Malling Jug.
Described by Mia as “the most caring, outgoing and supportive Mum,” Sarah is known for always going above and beyond for others. While her diagnosis has meant stepping back from her usual busy role in the community, the support she has received in return has been overwhelming.
From friends and customers to local businesses, the West Malling community has rallied around the family in an extraordinary way. A large raffle event, featuring prizes generously donated by local businesses and supporters, is just one example of the kindness shown.
Reflecting on this, Mia shared that the experience made her think about those who may not have access to such strong support networks. This inspired her to raise funds for The Pink Place, helping ensure more women can access the kind of support her mum has been fortunate to receive.
“The amount of support Mum has received has made such an impact. It made me think about people who might not be as lucky to be part of such a community. I chose The Pink Place to help increase the support others receive, and because I know how much of the funds go directly to helping people going through something similar.”
With her skydive just days away, Mia has already raised an incredible £9,670 and is now aiming to reach £10,000 by Saturday.
The Pink Place is incredibly touched by Mia and Sarah’s story, their generosity, and their decision to support a small charity making a direct difference to women facing cancer.
