Trustee Update – July 2026

22 July 2026

Although the plan was for us to update you every six months, we have obviously had the news that Kay will be leaving us after 14 fabulous years with The Pink Place. It is difficult to put into words just how much Kay has meant to the charity, and her steady guidance, care, commitment, and passion have helped shape The Pink Place into what it is today.

This means we need to recruit. We are currently going through that process to ensure we have the best person in place to continue Kay’s dedicated work, and are aiming to have someone in place by October at the latest.

Paramount is our dedication towards ensuring that the services we offer are not disrupted, and this ethos is central to our planning over the coming months. Luckily, we have a great team in place who already go above and beyond and, as trustees, we have already made progress in this area over the past few weeks. We can not promise things will be perfect as we transition, but we will be working very hard to minimise any disruption to our service delivery above and beyond anything else.

To that end, we have already advertised for a new position – a charity manager – and are in discussions as a team to better understand our resources and where we can improve. The consultation that took place with those who use The Pink Place over the past 12 months will help drive these ideas, and as we recruit, we must look at this as an opportunity to evolve and build.

The charity has changed a lot over the past five years. Costs are rising, and so is demand, so careful planning is essential to ensure that the charity thrives and keeps delivering to those people who need support in the best way possible.

Volunteers

We will also be looking to engage our volunteer network to maximise all-round support. We are so lucky to have many dedicated volunteers who support the charity, and the women who rely on The Pink Place.

If you are currently a volunteer for the charity, we will be in touch soon to ensure we have your most up-to-date details, including any skills you feel could help. If you are considering becoming a volunteer, now is the time to get in touch.

Trustees

We currently have four active trustees, who are also volunteers, and put in a lot of time and effort to ensure the charity runs as smoothly as it can. We are also looking to grow our board to get a wider range of expertise and opinion and to share the load.

We are looking for people with a passion for the charity who offer a pragmatic approach to solving problems and helping to improve our organisation as a whole. Perhaps you are someone with lived experience of cancer or an ex-healthcare professional who can help us better understand the implications of our offering and how to improve it. We also require support in accounts and HR.

In addition to a monthly trustees’ meeting, you would be required to actively and proactively get involved to support the team and help us drive the charity forward in a meaningful way. Ultimately, the support services we offer to women with cancer are the hub of the charity – we just need to make that as smooth, efficient and effective as possible.

If you are looking for a volunteer role where you can contribute to making a real change to people’s lives who are experiencing cancer, why not get in touch about becoming a trustee?
